A very elegant Victorian French jet collar necklace, dating to around 1895–1905.
The necklace is composed of beautifully faceted black glass beads, traditionally known as French jet.
The design features a graceful clustered bead front, creating a lovely focal point when worn. The necklace sits close to the neck at 14 inches, making it a true Victorian collar or choker, a style that works beautifully with modern clothing.
The clasp is a decorative oval box clasp stamped “ENGLAND”, a mark commonly used on jewellery exported from Britain after the late 19th century.
Jet jewellery became highly fashionable during the Victorian period following Queen Victoria’s long mourning for Prince Albert, and pieces such as this were worn both as mourning jewellery and as elegant fashion accessories into the Edwardian era
