A beautifully detailed vintage pendant necklace from the V&A Museum Collection, complete with its signed V&A tag.
The ornate egg-shaped pendant is designed in an archaeological revival or Castellani-inspired style, with applied lattice detailing, a delicate floral connector and a narrow band of sparkling clear crystals.
“Castellani style” refers to jewellery inspired by the famous 19th-century Roman goldsmithing family Castellani. The firm was founded by Fortunato Pio Castellani in 1814 and became particularly associated with the Archaeological Revival
The Castellani family studied ancient Etruscan, Roman and Byzantine jewellery and recreated both the motifs and old gold-working techniques.
A very pretty and unusual museum collection piece with a rich antique-inspired appearance.
The chain measures 16 inches with a 2 inch extension chain.
The pendant measures just under 2 inches including the bale.
Vintage condition is excellent.
